FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

What's the minimum account size or trading volume required for FIX API access?

FIX API access is typically reserved for serious algorithmic traders and institutional clients. While we evaluate applications individually, most approved clients maintain account balances of $50,000+ and execute significant monthly volume. If you're running automated strategies that genuinely need FIX connectivity, contact our institutional desk to discuss your specific situation—we're more interested in your trading infrastructure and capabilities than just account size.

Our FIX API infrastructure delivers sub-millisecond order routing from our servers to liquidity providers. Your total latency depends on your physical location and internet connection—clients using co-located servers or proximity hosting in our data center regions see round-trip times of 1-5 milliseconds. If you're connecting from a residential internet connection across continents, expect 50-200ms. For latency-sensitive strategies, we recommend VPS hosting in the same data center or geographic region as our FIX gateways.

Yes, if your software supports FIX protocol connectivity. Many institutional-grade trading platforms (like FlexTrade, TT, or custom-built systems) include FIX adapters. You'll need to configure your software with our FIX session credentials and message specifications. Standard retail platforms like MetaTrader don't natively support FIX—you'd need a bridge solution or custom development. We provide detailed technical documentation, but you (or your development team) are responsible for the integration.

Wisuno's FIX infrastructure includes automatic order state preservation and sequence number recovery. If your connection drops, any working orders remain active on our servers. When you reconnect, the FIX protocol's gap fill mechanism synchronizes execution reports you missed during the outage. Critical: implement proper reconnection logic in your client application, including sequence number management and heartbeat monitoring. Don't build systems that assume 100% uptime—network issues happen, and your code needs to handle them gracefully.

You get the same liquidity pool, but FIX API eliminates the latency overhead of the MetaTrader platform layer. For manual trading or basic strategies, MT4/MT5 pricing is identical. Where FIX shines is high-frequency strategies where microseconds matter, or complex order types that MetaTrader doesn't support. You're not getting "secret institutional pricing"—you're getting direct access without platform processing delays. If your strategy doesn't require sub-10ms execution or advanced order logic, MetaTrader is probably sufficient (and much easier to use).

You can run multiple strategies through one FIX session—there's no technical limitation. However, many algorithmic traders prefer separate sessions for isolation: if one strategy has a bug and floods the connection with bad orders, it doesn't take down your other strategies. Separate sessions also make performance monitoring cleaner. We support multiple simultaneous FIX connections per account, so structure it however makes sense for your risk management. Just coordinate with us on how many concurrent sessions you need during setup.

Our institutional support team helps with connectivity problems, message format questions, and infrastructure issues on our side. We'll troubleshoot session logon failures, explain our order rejection reasons, and clarify documentation. What we don't do: debug your client code, write your FIX adapter, or provide software development services. You need a developer who understands FIX protocol—we're here to support the Wisuno-specific aspects of your integration, not teach you how FIX works. We provide sample messages and detailed specs, but implementation is on your side.

FIX API access itself typically doesn't carry a separate technology fee at Wisuno—you pay standard commissions and spreads on your trades. However, high-frequency strategies generating massive message traffic may be subject to additional connectivity fees (we'll discuss this during application review if applicable). There are no "market data fees" for FIX price feeds as long as you're an active trading client. Co-location or dedicated server hosting (if you need it) would carry separate infrastructure costs. Bottom line: normal traders pay normal commissions. If you're doing something extreme that impacts our infrastructure costs, we'll talk about it upfront.
